Farla Stree Sangatan Honors Elders with Grandparents Day Celebration

Bantwal: The Stree Sangatan (Women’s Association) of Our Lady of Vailankanni Church, Farla, Bantwal, in collaboration with the Women’s Commission, commemorated World Grandparents Day on July 27th with a program honoring the contributions and wisdom of the community’s senior members.

The day commenced with a solemn Holy Mass, concelebrated by Fr. Theodor D’Cunha and other esteemed priests of the parish. Following the spiritual service, a formal stage program was held to further acknowledge the significance of the occasion.

Parish Priest Fr. Mark Arun D’Souza delivered the presidential address, expressing profound admiration for the sacrifices and tireless efforts of the elders within the community. He also extended his congratulations to the Stree Sangatan for organizing such a meaningful and impactful program.

The event was graced by the presence of several distinguished guests, including Fr. Theodor D’Cunha, Fr. Gilbert Mascarenhas, resource person Sr. Agnes Frank BS, Parish Pastoral Council Vice President Mr. Naveen Menezes, Secretary Mrs. Hilda Pereira, All Commissions Commissioner Mrs. Sunitha Rodrigues, President of the Stree Sangatan Mrs. Irine D’Souza, and Secretary Mrs. Joyce D’Souza.

A notable feature of the celebration was an exhibition of medicinal plants, highlighting their importance in traditional remedies and daily life. Sr. Agnes Frank BS, the resource person for the exhibition, provided informative briefings on the various uses and benefits of these plants.

The event also showcased a vibrant cultural program and an exhibition of traditional dishes commonly prepared during the rainy season, providing a glimpse into the region’s rich culinary heritage.

Mrs. Sunita Baptist and Mrs. Jyothi Sequiera skillfully compered the program. Secretary Joyce D’Souza extended a warm welcome to the assembled gathering, and President Irine D’Souza concluded the event with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all who contributed to the success of the Grandparents Day celebration.
