‘I Compare Women To Water’ – Bishop Dr Peter During Diamond Jubilee Celebrations Of DCCW
Mangaluru: The Diamond Jubilee of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women was held at Roshni Nilaya, Valencia here, on March 14.
The program began with an invocation by the members of DCCW. President Terry Pais welcomed the gathering. Secretary Gretta Pinto read out the annual report on the occasion. Treasurer Gulobi Fernandes presented the annual account statement.
Former President Lydia D’Cunha provided a historical overview of DCCW’s objectives since its founding.
The Diamond Jubilee celebration was inaugurated by the Bishop of Mangalore Dr Peter Paul Saldanha. In his inaugural address, Bishop Dr Saldanha congratulated the DCCW members for completing 60 glorious years and said, “I compare women to water, for their ability to flow and adapt. With multifaceted roles, they nurture and sustain, taking care of homes, children, husbands, and families with love and dedication. Their strength lies in their resilience, and their capacity to care, with compassion and kindness, they bring people together and show they truly care”.
Bishop Dr Saldanha further said, “Today you are celebrating the Diamond Jubilee of DCCW, which shows the dedication and hard work you all put in to run this organization for 60 years. Your dedication to your work is a testament, a symbol of strength, and a beacon of light. All of you have come from different backgrounds, but you have the vision to serve society, and through DCCW, you have shown your unity for the past 60 years”.
Bishop Dr. Saldanha wished all the DCCW members to complete 60 years of service.
All the former Presidents were felicitated on the occasion. Former Spiritual directors, including former Bishop Emeritus of the Mangalore diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Fr Denis Moras Prabhu, and Fr Francis D’Souza, were also felicitated on the occasion.
The election was held for the years 2021 to 2024, and Gretta Pinto was elected as the president, and Advocate Sylvia was elected as the vice president of DCCW.
DCCW members Advocate Slyvia and Lynette Castelino compered the program. Secretary Gretta Pinto delivered the vote of thanks. The program ended with a sumptuous lunch.
